About me

I'm Michelle. I make things.

Mostly I sew and crochet. I make quilts and clothes and bags. I have a big vegetable garden and I love to spend time there, getting soil under my finger nails and delighting in the benefits of compost. I love to cook and bake and preserve. My favourite childhood dish is my mum's lasagne, closely followed by macaroni cheese.

In 2008 I left my public service job and used the redundancy money to take four months off and start a crafty business. I have an Etsy shop called Buttontree Lane where I sell pouches and bags you can lug your crafty project around in. Or your lunch. Or your Legos. I'm now back in the public service again and I love my job, but it means that I don't get as much of an opportunity to sew for the business anymore and that kind of makes me sad.

I'm married to a handsome fella called Scott. He usually is referred to as The Mister on this blog. We've been together for 18 years. I think he's pretty amazing.

I collect vintage Pyrex and Blythe dolls, dust bunnies and fabric.

I believe that food really does taste better in vintage Pyrex, and I try to use it everyday to justify my collection. I believe in trying to be happy no matter what the situation and despite also being the biggest whinger I know. I believe that Canberra is a beautiful place to live, and that the less people that know about it the better. I believe that making something every day, even if it's just dinner, is as important to my life as breathing is.
