The day before the year before

It seems everyone is tagging me for a meme lately, and while I'm very honoured, I've already done it.

You can
read it and be bored all over again.

Tomorrow will be the first day of the last year of my 30s. Normally I'd be quite excited by my birthday - it's spring after all, and I was looking forward to a lovely day with Mr QM, with farmers' markets, breakfast, the Nara Festival, Floriade. But last night we heard that we'll be welcoming visitors to our home instead. I am not looking forward to it, and in fact the prospect of having to entertain the most miserable person I've even met has sent me on the slippery slope into a huge depression, something I normally fight quite strongly against.

  1. Hope it is not as bad as you think it will be. Just remember, visitors always leave and you will have your home back. If they annoy you too much, just ring and I will kidnap you and Scott away from them.

  2. Bugger! and on your birthday weekend too.
I'm thinking about heading off camping with the kids - I've got room in the car if you need to jump ship!
Those candles look lovely too - off to check out the festival thingie...

  5. Poor you ! You know you are not looking at all well - I fear a raging bout of gastro may hit your place sometime really really soon - the poor visitors will have to be put off for their own good....and then - a miraculous recovery.
Birthdays are for YOU!!! You only get one a year you know.

  6. Bugger it. That just sucks. I hope that your unfortunate guest will behave themselves and not turn your birthday into a completely unforgettable experience. This weekend I am preparing for my baby's first birthday party on Sunday and next weekend is my birthday so I'm sending some excellent birthday cheer to you over the net!! Maybe I could send you some leftovers???

  10. I empathise with you completely, we have a friend of CK's who turns up on his own invite and now brings his odious wife and daughter!

Suggest as compensation you haev a full-on birthday week to ake up for having your day spoiled.

  11. Hi. Sorry you have to have such a horrible visitor. I have had a couple like that in my life and I just can't even manage to feign politeness when they have come. Does it help to know that your blog today had a really dickensian feel (as in Charles Dickens). Maybe your visitor is a horrible Uriah Heep! All the best Cherrie

  12. Hope your visitor doesn't read your blog! Poor you though. Uuuughhhh. House guests are so overated!! My inlaws both live overseas (in different countries) and I never really look forward to their visits.

    Happy Birthday though!

  13. Oh bugger! Maybe you can have a birthday celebration for a whole week in lieu once visitors depart. Happy Birthday from me anyway!

  14. That's no way to have a birthday. I hope you get to have a makeup birthday when you are done playing unhappy hostess.
