Procrastination pro

Is it ironic, or just unfortunate, that whilst in the throes of a writing brownout, I have two job applications to write? I've been sitting at this computer since 10 am, and in that time I've made a shopping list, chatted with a neighbour, washed and hung a load of towels, had lunch, taken photos of my weirdo eggplants and checked out some inspiration on Wardrobe Refashion. I had promised myself that if I got most of the application out of the way I would sew for the rest of the afternoon and leave the application to ferment until tomorrow morning.

I don't think that skirt is going to get sewn today.

My strategy for job applications is to do a complete brain dump - I separate the criteria and make notes like "mention current role in assessing data analysis requirements for xxx" and "talk about setting up forum by identifying problem, working on solution by implementing strategies for improved communication". Actually, that's most of what I've written so far.

I'm pathetic, but by Jove I'm a mighty procrastinator.

Here are some photos of the weirdo eggplants we are growing, just because they are so beautiful. The Mister bought these unlabelled plants at the farmers' market and has no idea what they are.

  1. mmmmmmmm eggplant, yummy!

Good luck with your job aps, I HATE writing those awful things. By the way, you may well be a mighty procrastinator, but I am the Queen! Shame it is a talent that doesn't amount to much! LOL

  2. I so understand - I am a MASSIVE procrastinator ... that's why I'm reading blogs right now instead of the 50 million other things I really need to be doing, or not! It's nice not to be alone. I bet you work well under pressure too! Nic

  3. Those eggplants are little works of art! I could never grow them, but I did grow a big male prickly eggplant tree!
Mr BJ makes a mean babaganoush.....with bought eggplants (boo hoo)
I actually did a purple post today, with Blythes and everthing! I think your eggplant pic would be great in the "puce-ness" flickr pool!

  4. You could always tell when I had an assignment due at uni - the house would be super clean, washing done, car clean etc. I am also a great procrastinator!!

  5. How distracting are those egg plants, oh my!! Were you talking about them to your neighbour?? Just saw you leave a comment at Retro Mummy about her coming to Canberra Mathilda's - she is awesome & so fun. Don't you do Mathilda's too?? Or is just the other Michelle in our lives, Poppy, Bean & Bloss?? You should come, it's fun & fast & furious four hours. Love Posie

  6. Sometimes I think my mat leave has been a big procrastination festival...I'm that letter on Meyer-Briggs or whatever that is "energised by deadlines" though, so that last few days have been a hive of activity.

  9. Those eggplant are amazing - I wonder if they will keep those fabulous patterns as they mature? I hope so, I do love a funky vegetable.

Oh job applications, a special kind of procrastination. No advice from me, I would rather stick pins in my eye than address a selection criteria - probably a factor in my career stagnation. Nonetheless, I'm sure you'll pull something brilliant out of your hat at the eleventh hour!

  12. You're better than a mighty procrastinator ... you're getting close to the best. LOL I wonder if you're like me ... you get to the end of the process and discover it wasn't as bad as you thought it would be.

  13. It doesn't look like you are going to get much joy from many of us - we're all as bad as each other. How about a timer? Ten minutes of tedious boring stuff, half an hour for making babaganoush, ten minutes of tedious boring stuff, three hours of tennis final, ten minutes of tedious boring stuff, er, bed.

  14. Beautiful eggplants. The colours are fabulous. Great for a quilt. I hope one of your applications is for us! Good luck with them. They are just to be endured.

  15. I too will join the procrastinator's club. Tomorrow!

Hope you got the applications done! I just did an hour's worth of tidying in my knitting room. I've only been putting it off for the last 3 months!

  17. I know the feeling! procrastinating is so easy to become a habit, a bad habit for me anyway. I was like the comment from Bec above. When I had an assignment due, the house was quite spotless and the garden looking great. Pooor you job applications are one of the worst, good luck!!!!
