That necklace

Thank you so much for all the lovely comments on my last post. I think you're just fantastic. I've been out every night this week so I haven't even been able to cut out my next creation, but I'm hoping by the end of the weekend (gosh, how I love weekends) there will be something to show off.

The tape measure necklace, for those who asked, is by Victoria Mason, a Melbourne jeweller. The Mister gave it to me for my 40th birthday last year, and I think it is my favourite piece of jewellery.

I'm quite old fashioned and I still measure fabric in inches - what about you?

  1. I really love your necklace - I will have to keep my eye out for one. I don't measure fabric in inches, but wood, yes ... 4x2 etc etc ... I'm pretty sure I inherited this from my Dad who had no boys and taught my sister and I how to do "handyman" jobs (definatley has been handy for the 3 reno's we've done). Have a great day!

  2. I inconsistently measure in inches or cm depending on what I'm making. But I always measure babies in pounds (I really must learn to convert to kg now). And I get haircuts in inches ("oh about an inch off the ends please")

  3. That necklace is loverly. In fact, pretty much all of Victoria Mason's jewellery is fantastic. I have my eye on one of the pencil shaving necklaces as a reward for when I reach a long term goal.

Most of the time I think of things in metric measures, but it's hard to avoid imperial when working with vintage or US patterns.

  4. Never measured in inches - just don't get them!! About 19 years ago I started an Interior Decorating course in England and of the class of 18 - I and another lady were the only ones who used cm to measure in.

  5. That's lovely! I'm American, so it's inches all the way for me. Our ignorance of the metric system is legendary, isn't it!

  6. Hey Michelle,
I got my pencil shaving necklace from my husband and the girls for Christmas and have worn it so much- I love it. Your tops and skirts are just lovely.
