My creative (tropical) space

How my afternoons were spent

This was my creative space on Saturday. Very different from my normal space - it was warm and I was barefoot, for instance. There was a pretty astounding view from where I was sitting, too.

View

Even after 16 years of visiting my parents in Cairns, and being a North Queensland girl for 16 years before that, the novelty of being able to sleep at night in summer pyjamas with the windows open has not worn off. Neither has the thrill of walking around outside barefoot. Nor the excitement at seeing this guy on the way home from Port Douglas on Sunday (we were driving slowly to avoid the silly tourists who were parking all over a narrow highway to take photos of the croc.)

So now I'm back in the cold of Canberra and it's not so bad, except I have to make my own coffee around here and it's not as good as Dad's. I love Canberra's winters and the beautiful blue skies, but by jingo I'm ready for spring already!

  2. Thanks for making my heart warm with the memories of Summer! When you put your flannel pjs and bed socks on, it's hard to imagine that in just a few months, it will be summer pjs time.

  4. Wow - lovely spot, especially at this time of year. At least the days are getting longer down here ... not long until spring and warmth arrives again. Thanks for leaving a comment on my blog!

  11. While the sun is shining in Hobart today, it is certainly not barefoot weather.

Your space looks lovely, what a view!

I lived in the tropics for half my life and miss so much of that lifestyle (not the build-up though! Tassie has softened me to such heat.)

  14. My parents are at Mission Beach and I will only visit in winter - that humidity kills me any other time of the year. I think you either have it in your blood or you don't. Great pics - love your replositioned space.

  15. Oh you have a croc story too! what a hoot. I loved the whole barefoot thing when I was up north too - but it is nice to be able to snuggle up and to wear things like socks and scarves.

  19. I think I would have frozen to death by now had I had such a change in temperature, from Cairns to Victoria. But I did feel the warmth of the ensuing spring in the air today and thought there might be hope after all!
