My creative space

My creative space

My creative space today is busy. Too busy! In fact, I'm leaving it all for the day so I can spend the time applying for a job. There are sunnyboys waiting for seams and waiting to be pressed, some beautiful fabric that a friend has given me to make some boxes for sockses for her, and a Clothkits kit that I won in a Lark giveaway. I just need a few hours to make the outfit up for a little friend. Added to the photo is a big yellow screwdriver. My very, very old overlocker has been giving me so much grief lately - jamming, breaking needles, not cutting. The screwdriver gets used on it several times a day. I know it needs a service, but I use it constantly and I have to decide if I can do without it for a week! Maybe I should pick that week to paint my sewing room.

Also, water. I need to drink more water. Being at home all day, I forget. If I have a big glass on my sewing table, I'll hopefully remember to drink it, and also hopefully remember not to knock it over (do I sound like the voice of experience?). And rice crackers to stop me craving sweet stuff, like the tiffin that is in the fridge at the moment.

My creative space #2

The beauty of a proper sewing table is the overlocker return. Today it is just taunting me, and not just because of the broken overlocker. I painted these stencils at Brown Owls on Sunday. They are to be produce bags - both calico and muslin. I don't like using plastic bags at the markets, so this is my attempt at stopping that practice. Do you like my purple carrot? I printed this one at home, and I didn't have any yellow in my paint stash to make an orange one. Oops! Carrots can be purple though, so I know I can get away with this one!

Hopefully I'll find time to sew them up before the markets on Saturday.

Does anyone have any spare time they can send me?

  2. Sorry - I've had a look under the couch (as there is where all missing things seem to go) and there is no spare time for you! Good luck with the job. And hurry hurry hurry with that application so you can get back to all the goodness waiting in your creative space.

  3. Good Luck with the job hunt!! The fabric choices are beautiful and I am right there with you on the "more water" front....I really need to do the same. A cup with liquid in this house will get knocked over if not drunk immediately haha..

  7. No spare time here!! Sorry, but your space looks fantastic. I have a very old second hand industrial Brother overlocker that I picked up for near nothing and I'm-a-telling you I'll never go back, it is fantastic!!

  8. Love the stencilling. Have been thinking about taking home made bags to the green grocer, just haven't got there so far! Wonderful addition to the repertoire.

  9. My kids love purple carrots. We used to get them from the CSA, but then they stopped letting kids in the garden, so I couldn't work off half a share, so... no more purple carrots. For now, anyway.

How about a water bottle? We just got some Camelbaks. They have a flip top and a straw, and I like it so much better than the Sigg. I drink much more water that way, and less spillage. ;)

  14. after a wee diversion to lark and an email to my sister a dress kit for my niece is winging its way here - thanks for the link. I think I read about Lark in frankie. And I saw a clothkits skirt in a mag recently and fell madly in love.

oh no about the overlocker - wish I had one to lend you while this one is in hospital. must be time to paint.

  15. Your space looks very inviting. Especially like the screw driver. Is that for nice sharp corners?

  16. Wow! You do sound busy. All great stuff. :o)

Hey if you're in the northern burbs of Melbourne, where I get my machines serviced do it in a day or two. If you drop it off on a Wednesday, you should have it back on a Thursday. Let me know if you want to know where it is. I don't think I could bear being without my machines for a week. eep.

Nice how you set yourself up in your space with water and snacks. I always bring my tea to my studio and end up with lots of empty cups up there.
